It’s Not Easy Seeing Green (2018)
It’s Not Easy Seeing Green is a workshop, experimental film, and installation made in collaboration with the 300 elementary school students at Turning Point School, Culver City, CA. The work explores the poetics found inside Los Angeles’s last remaining wetland. Students were introduced to the surrealist cut-up poetry method to produce original pieces of nature poetry. They explored the Ballona Wetlands using their poems like scripts to photograph scenes inside the wetlands with disposable cameras. The subsequent film matches their 35mm images with their words.
The project was made with the support of Turning Point’s visiting artist in residence program.
